Supporting a Healing Space at Eastbourne Hospital
We were recently contacted by Balfour Beatty Living Places, who shared a great opportunity to support Eastbourne Hospital in transforming one of its outdoor courtyards.
Courtyard, currently outdated and largely unused, has long been restricted to the estates team. The space suffers from poor landscaping, no seating, and a general lack of amenities. But the vision for this courtyard is inspiring—it has the potential to become a peaceful, functional outdoor area that supports the well-being of hospital staff, patients, and visitors alike.
The hospital has developed exciting plans to completely renovate the space, with features such as:
- New landscaping and accessible pathways
- Comfortable outdoor furniture
- Eco-friendly lighting powered by solar panels or a small wind turbine
- A soundboard for relaxation
- A miniature greenhouse
- A variety of plants and greenery
- A sustainable rainwater recycling system
The estimated cost of the project is around £50,000, and they’re currently seeking donations to help make this vision a reality.
Even though the courtyard is not yet fully developed, feedback already shows the positive impact that even a bit of time outside can have on patients and staff. Imagine what a fully renovated space could do. Nature and fresh air can be powerful tools for healing—let’s help bring that to Courtyard.
