On the 18th of July, we volunteered in a beach clean in Hastings alongside Balfour Beatty Living Places. It was a great opportunity to help improve the local environment, making it safer, cleaner, and more enjoyable for both the community and wildlife.
We met Paul from Hastings Borough Council, who helped organise the day with BBLP, and together we collected litter from the beach. It was a great (and very hot!) day spent doing something positive, knowing our efforts were making a difference.
This time of year, when the holidays begin, the weather’s warmer, and more people are heading to beaches, parks and outdoor spaces, making it easy for litter to build up. It important as a community we make a conscious effort to clean up after ourselves. It keeps these shared spaces safer and cleaner for people, marine life and wildlife.

Why should you get involved?
There are many reasons to why you should get involved in helping to keep the environment clean and clear, but here’s a few key points to think about:
Protect wildlife
Litter can be extremely harmful to animals, whether it’s on land or in the sea. By taking part in clean-ups, you’re helping to protect the habitats and lives of countless species.
Improve your local community
Clean, litter-free spaces are simply better to spend time in. It’s about taking pride in where we live and encouraging others to do the same. Everyone deserves a safe, pleasant environment.
Make a difference
Even small actions add up. Whether it’s picking up a few bits of rubbish or joining a bigger clean-up, it shows others that it’s worth caring. That ripple effect can inspire real change.
Get active and connect
Beach cleans are a great way to get outdoors, enjoy some fresh air and exercise, and meet like-minded people who care about making a difference. It’s good for the planet and good for you too.
