Social Value: Kevins 320km Walk for Prostate Cancer

Posted 20th April 2025

Camino de Santiago Primitivo – 320km walk – 10th – 24th April 2025

Hi-Way Services Ltd is proud to support Kevin Gray from Steadlines, as he’s taking on the challenge to walk from Camino de Santiago Primitivo, a 320-kilometre journey through the rugged countryside and mountains of northern Spain, ending at the iconic Santiago de Compostela Cathedral. This is an incredible journey to make, just like his story he’s shared.

At some point in life, many of us begin to focus more on our health, and that’s exactly what Kevin decided to do. He started with private health checks, which included monitoring his PSA levels. The initial results showed his PSA level was slightly higher than the normal range, prompting a plan for regular 6-month PSA tests (a simple blood test).

As the tests continued, Kevin’s PSA levels were increasing, leading to a biopsy. Fortunately, the results showed no signs of cancer. However, Kevin remained diligent with his 6-month checkups. Unfortunately, when the COVID-19 pandemic hit, his health checks were delayed.

After some disruption, Kevin was later diagnosed with Stage 3 prostate cancer. Despite the aggressive nature of the cancer and extensive treatment, Kevin was given the all-clear in July 2024. Now, he undergoes regular tests every three months to monitor for any changes, a routine he will continue for the foreseeable future.

Talking about cancer is undoubtedly challenging, and Kevin’s courage in sharing his story is truly inspiring. By speaking out, he hopes to raise awareness and encourage all men—especially those in their forties who feel fit and healthy—to get tested. Early detection is key, as catching the disease early can lead to more successful outcomes and a longer, healthier life. Sadly, 1 in 8 men and 1 in 4 Black men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer too late.

A massive well done to Kevin and his wife on their walk!

The money being raised is to support the charity Prostate Cancer UK.
