Thursday 13th June, we visited HMP Ford prison for a career fair. The fair was held for the offenders who will be on release within the next few months. As it’s a working prison, where they continue to learn and develop their skills, this was a great opportunity to get involved in, offering job positions that can support them as they transition back into society.
I was able to set up a table with snacks and merchandise and have one to one chat with the guys who were interested in working with us. A lot of them already had some of the qualifications that we train them for, and some even had experience working in highway job prior. It was great to see how motivated they all are to get back into work.
We are interested in going forward, but also looking into The ROTL Scheme with the help of Sharon Hardy (business & community engagement manager) at HMP Ford.
A big thanks to Ceri Turner from Balfour Beatty Living Places, who introduced us to the event and is supporting us through the process.
