All Roads Lead to Royal Harbour

“No matter what your ultimate vocation, there’s satisfaction to be found in any occupation – you just have to find what works for you”.

One of the joys of running a successful business is being able to give something back to the local community. We owe so much of our success to our relationships with the businesses around us, and the majority of our employees are locally schooled and trained.

To this end we sponsored Littlehampton Youth FC last season, and have co-sponsored the Thanet Athletics event for a number of years. Our latest attempt to give back to the local area is our relationship with The Royal Harbour Academy in Ramsgate, helping to inspire the next generation of road workers.

The prospect of delivering a talk at Royal Harbour was first raised by Micky Capeling, the school’s head of Year 11 and P.E., as part of a wider effort to get local businessmen and personalities involved with the school. The idea was to show kids at Royal Harbour examples of local people from different backgrounds who went on to have success in different fields.

Our Managing Director Andy was more than happy to help, and recently gave his second talk to students at the school. Covering his career and the development of Hi-Way Services as a business, Andy provided a straight-talking look at the pathways into road marking, and how he found career satisfaction in the industry.

Central to his talks was the idea that you can be happy and successful in a whole variety of careers, some of which you may never have considered. No matter what your ultimate vocation, there’s satisfaction to be found in any occupation – you just have to find what works for you. According to the feedback we received, his motivational tips have gone down well!

Our relationship with Royal Harbour has already borne fruit, with two graduates going on to work with us at Hi-Way Services. We’re delighted to be opening people’s minds to the prospect of working in road markings, but we’re also keen to stress that whatever your passion – and whenever you find it – there’s a perfect career path out there for you.

We’re keenly awaiting our next opportunity to help out at Royal Harbour, but we’re also keeping an eye out for more opportunities to connect with the local area. If you have a suggestion as to where we might be able to help out, we’d be happy to hear it!
